Delving into her Diwali recollections and upcoming celebrations, Pratibha Ranta shares the significance of this year, highlighted by her involvement in “Laapataa Ladies” and “Heeramandi,” along with her aspirations for an Oscar nod for the former project.

Pratibha Ranta is eagerly looking forward to the upcoming Diwali celebrations, particularly after a hectic year working on projects like Laapataa Ladies and Heeramandi: The Diamond Baazaar. Despite being extremely busy this year and missing out on several festivals, she is determined to make the most of Diwali by hosting a cozy puja at her home. This tradition is close to her heart as it reminds her of her roots and helps her stay connected to her culture.

At 23 years old, the individual reminisces about the festival of lights, highlighting, “Diwali, to me, holds profound spiritual significance thanks to my grandparents, staunch practitioners of spirituality. When I was around four, they instilled in me the principle of refraining from using firecrackers. Since then, I have resolved that henceforth, my Diwali celebration would revolve around gifting, donning festive attire, perhaps visiting friends, and, of course, participating in the puja rituals.

Pratibha finds great joy in celebrating Diwali with Puja and cherishing the little moments that make the festival special. Reflecting on her traditions, she emphasizes the significance of Puja as a central ritual in her Diwali celebrations. Adorning her home with radiant lights and diyas is a practice she deeply enjoys. Recalling her childhood, she fondly remembers creating intricate rangolis outside her doorstep, although mischievous puppies often disturbed her designs. As a devoted cat parent now, she looks forward to including her feline companion in the festivities by sharing cozy cuddles. Pratibha ensures her cat’s safety during Diwali by keeping them away from diyas, mindful of their curious nature.

The actor had initially intended to be away for a shoot during Diwali, but her plans took an unexpected turn, leading her to celebrate the festival in Mumbai instead. This year’s Diwali celebration will mark her fifth in the city. Pratibha reveals that ever since her relocation, she has not returned to her hometown for the festive season. She explains, “I had made up my mind to visit my hometown for Diwali once I achieved something significant. Now, I wish to have my family join me here for the celebrations. Looking ahead, I am already envisioning spending Diwali with my grandparents here next year.

Pratibha’s highlight of the year has been the selection of “Laapataa Ladies” as India’s official entry for the Oscars in 2025. She expresses her excitement by sharing, “This Diwali, I am praying a little extra for an Oscar, although my prayers to God are a daily ritual. Each night before sleeping, I express gratitude towards God and now I’ve included this new wish.” She recalls being in a meeting when she received the news, and the flood of congratulatory messages left her momentarily stunned. “I couldn’t believe it at first. It took me a while to digest the news. I eagerly anticipate the day we attend the Oscars and step onto that stage. The thought of that moment gives me chills every time I imagine it,” she concludes.
