2024 Maharashtra Assembly Election Updates in Mumbai: Following his expulsion from the Congress in August, Zeeshan is gearing up to contest against Uddhav Thackeray’s nephew for the Bandra (East) seat in the forthcoming elections.
Zeeshan Siddique, following in his father’s political path, officially joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Ajit Pawar on Friday morning. He was declared as the party’s candidate from Bandra East. Siddique revealed that despite recent communication with leaders from Congress and the Maha Vikas Aghadi, he felt they were insincere. The ex-Congress MLA refrained from criticizing Congress directly, stating that they often succumb to the influence of Shiv Sena (UBT).
Zeeshan, a former Congress MLA, emerged victorious in the 2019 Assembly election under the Congress banner before being expelled by the party. Now, competing against Varun Sardesai from Shiv Sena (UBT) in the current polls, his alignment with Ajit Pawar’s party triggers conjectures regarding his political loyalties. Despite his father’s transition to the NCP, Zeeshan had initially declared his commitment to stay within the Congress fold.
In the 2019 Assembly election, Zeeshan emerged victorious in the Bandra East constituency as a Congress candidate, carrying forward a strong political lineage from his late father, Baba Siddique. On the other hand, Varun Sardesai, a new entrant in the field, is backed by the Pawar legacy as he enters the electoral arena.
