Amid financial crisis, Anupam Kher faced an additional blow when his car got stolen, leading to a situation where the misfortune turned into amusement for the law enforcement officers.

Anupam Kher frequently discussed the challenges he encountered prior to his breakthrough in the film industry. In a recent conversation, the seasoned actor revealed that despite his established presence in Hindi cinema, he experienced financial difficulties that nearly led him to bankruptcy. Adding to his woes during this tough phase, Anupam also had to deal with the theft of his car. He humorously recounted how the police officers, upon learning of his misfortune, couldn’t help but chuckle at the irony of his situation.

During an interview on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, Anupam reflected on a challenging period in his life, sharing, “In my pursuit of becoming a television mogul, I faced near bankruptcy between 2003 and 2004. Despite my established career in successful films at the time, I found myself on the brink of losing both my office and home. It was then that a memory resurfaced – a time when, as a struggling actor, I sought solace in prayers at the Mahalakshmi temple, fervently praying for success. Ironically, after achieving fame, I had abandoned this practice, believing that my setbacks were a result of displeasing a higher power.

The actor then recounted the tale of his car being stolen right before his eyes. Recalling, “I’m not fond of driving, but I drove myself to the temple that day. I left the engine running and went to offer my prayers. As I knelt down to pray, I witnessed a thief making off with my car. I hastily flagged down an autorickshaw and instructed the driver to chase after the thief, but to no avail. Consequently, I directed him to head to a nearby police station. Upon detailing the bizarre incident to the officers, they erupted in laughter. They were in stitches, finding it incredulous that such a scenario unfolded in reality. It seemed like a scene ripped straight from a movie to them.

Anupam Kher initiated his acting journey with the highly praised film Saaransh, helmed by Mahesh Bhatt. Throughout his extensive career spanning decades, he has graced the screen in a plethora of legendary movies such as Ram Lakhan, Tezaab, Lamhe, Dil, Vijay, Khosla Ka Ghosla, A Wednesday, Baby, and many others. His upcoming project is the movie Emergency, featuring Kangana Ranaut.
