In the region of Baikunthpur Block located in the Gopalganj District of Bihar, an incident unfolded involving the teacher known as Renu Kumari. The District Education Officer (DEO) Yogesh Kumar’s notice to the teacher has sparked a reaction among fellow educators.
The education department’s latest regulations mandate that teachers use the e-ShikshaKosh app to record their daily attendance. To comply, teachers need to snap a selfie on school grounds and upload it to the application. Despite these instructions, teacher Renu Kumari was noted to have falsely recorded her presence multiple times in September by submitting a selfie taken while seated in a car. Subsequently, authorities conducted an inquiry into the matter, confirming its veracity.
DEO Yogesh Kumar has directed the school’s headmaster to request a clear explanation from the teacher and deliver it to the DEO’s office within 48 hours. In case of the teacher’s failure to provide a satisfactory response, appropriate measures will be implemented. The DEO’s office has additionally appended photos of the teacher’s attendance as evidence. Remarkably, it was observed that the teacher recorded her presence while seated in a car on September 9, 10, 13, 14, 23, 24, 27, and October 2.
Disciplinary measures were taken against the teacher due to this issue. Previous incidents of a similar nature prompted authorities to investigate the matter closely. Reports indicated that several teachers had previously engaged in such attendance marking practices. This development caused a significant upheaval in the education sector. As per a Hindustan Times report, over 700 teachers saw a deduction in their day’s pay following the implementation of this system in May.
