The caller claimed that a man called Mohammad was traveling from Mumbai to Azerbaijan with explosives
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai received a bomb threat from an unidentified caller on Wednesday afternoon, who informed the security personnel about a passenger carrying explosives.
According to sources, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) control room at Terminal 1 (domestic) received a bomb threat call on Wednesday afternoon, prompting an immediate response from authorities.
The caller claimed that a man called Mohammad was traveling from Mumbai to Azerbaijan with explosives.
Acting swiftly, the CISF team immediately alerted the Sahar Police Station, which led to the prompt deployment of officers to the airport for a detailed investigation. Meanwhile, sources indicate that the caller failed to specify any flight details and abruptly ended the call around 3 PM. As a result, authorities are now conducting a thorough probe and working diligently to trace the caller’s identity.
This fresh incident further adds to the growing barrage of hoax bomb threats that Indian airlines have received over the past few weeks, intensifying concerns about security.
Around two weeks ago, the Nagpur Police had arrested a 35-year-old man from Maharashtra’s Gondia, who was allegedly behind the spate of hoax bomb threats that triggered panic, caused flight delays, and led to increased security at airports and other establishments.
The Nagpur Police Special Branch identified the suspect as Jagdish Uikey, noting that he is not only the author of a book on terrorism but also has an arrest record from a 2021 case. Additionally, officials revealed that they traced the hoax emails back to him, leading to his identification.
