PCB Warned Over Stubborn Champions Trophy Stance, Report Says ICC Could Shift Event To...

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is under increasing pressure over its stance on hosting the ICC Champions Trophy, following India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan due to ongoing security concerns. India’s withdrawal poses a major challenge for the PCB, as the tournament’s success relies on India’s participation. In response, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has proposed a hybrid model to resolve the impasse. Under this plan, India’s matches would be played in the UAE, while the final would be held in Dubai, thus addressing security issues while allowing India to take part in the event.

The ICC has reportedly informed the PCB that, if it accepts the hybrid model, it would receive the full hosting fee and control the majority of the tournament’s matches. This arrangement would allow Pakistan to retain the financial and prestige benefits of hosting the tournament, despite not holding all matches within its borders. However, the ICC has warned that if the PCB rejects the hybrid model and insists on holding the entire tournament in Pakistan, it may relocate the event to South Africa, a move that would severely damage Pakistan’s cricketing profile and financial interests.

Despite the mounting pressure from the ICC and the potential loss of the tournament, the PCB has remained firm in its refusal to accept the hybrid model. The board continues to push for hosting the entire tournament in Pakistan, citing national pride and its desire to showcase the country as a viable host for major international cricket events. This has resulted in a standoff between the PCB and the ICC, with the final decision set to have significant implications for both Pakistan’s position in international cricket and the future of the Champions Trophy.
