In the span of one week, Kashmir has witnessed three separate attacks on non-local workers, with the latest targeting a laborer from Uttar Pradesh. These incidents follow previous fatal assaults in Ganderbal and Shopian.
In the Tral area of Pulwama district in South Kashmir, a worker hailing from Uttar Pradesh fell victim to a shooting incident carried out by terrorists on Thursday, sustaining injuries.
Police reported that Shubam Kumar, a Bijnore resident, was identified as the victim of a gunshot wound to the arm during a terrorist attack in Batagund village.
Kumar has been swiftly taken to a medical facility for medical care, and reports indicate that he is currently in a stable condition.
Within the last week, Kashmir has witnessed its third assault on non-local workers. The tragic incident took place on Sunday at a construction site in Ganderbal district, where a local doctor and six non-local laborers lost their lives due to a terror attack.
On October 20, surveillance cameras recorded two terrorists spending seven minutes at a laborers’ camp in the Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir. The individuals were armed with an M4 carbine and an AK-47, both of American origin. The incident resulted in the tragic loss of seven lives.
APCO Infratech employed the individuals who have passed away. The company was responsible for the construction of the Z-Morh tunnel along the Srinagar-Sonamarg highway.
At approximately 7:25 pm on the evening of October 20, the assault took place at the camp while certain employees were seated in the dining area and others were on their way to have dinner.
Nestled beneath a winding access road leading to the tunnel, the campsite is surrounded by desolate mountains on one side and the Srinagar-Leh national highway on the other.
The recent assault marked the most lethal strike on civilians in Jammu and Kashmir since the tragic event on June 9 in Reasi, where nine pilgrims lost their lives. The incident unfolded as the bus carrying the pilgrims was targeted by terrorists and fell into a valley.
In Shopian district, on October 18, terrorists fatally shot Ashok Kumar Chavan, a laborer from Bihar. His body, riddled with bullets, was found in the Wachi area of Zainpora.
The authorities reported that Chavan had four bullet wounds on his body, marking the initial incident of a deliberate assassination in the region following the assumption of power by the civilian administration under Omar Abdullah in Jammu and Kashmir on October 16th.
